‘The 1¼ acre Arbury Adventure Playground looks like a Wild West stockade, with tall telegraph poles visible above the high fencing and a tattered Union Jack blowing in the breeze. It lies on the northern edge of the housing estate. As many as 250 children are likely to be there during the school holidays. It was parents on the estate who got the venture going and raise the initial money. Fencing alone cost mor than £1000. Since then the City Council have helped with grants.’ (News, August 1974)
