Punch and Judy shows

Robin: During the summer holidays, where I lived was St Matthew’s Pieces, which was a huge recreation ground and during the summer holidays, we used to have Punch and Judy shows. The man would set up his Punch and Judy thing on the grassy area and the kids would be most excited because you’d have the whole punch story come along. It’s quite violent really wasn’t it? But it was just like a seaside thing with the whole canvas covered thing and yeah, it was excellent. And kid would sit on the grass watching it and shouting.

Pippa: And what year was that?

Robin: I guess early 50s, yeah. So, it was something to look forward to. Yeah.
